Mel and Arlene
Mel and Arlene on the Weather Deck

I would be remiss if I didn’t include a few other parts of my treatment – the don’t ask, don’t tell part of the program. None of that is necessarily doctor-approved, and I will leave that for a separate sidebar. Besides, morning twilight is just happening, and Arlene and I never want to miss watching the sunrise from our deck, overlooking Long Island Sound. Our house looks south and east. Amazingly, from the first day of fall to the first day of spring, we can watch the sun come up directly from the ocean surface. Then, from the first day of spring through the summer, the sun shifts far enough to the north so that its initial liftoff is obscured by a point that extends out to the water. Our home is positioned like a local Stonehenge – in total synch with the sun and the seasons. I hope to have a lot of sunrises in the future, a lot of seasons to experience, too. But for now, I just don’t want to miss this one.
